The Pats this year have an amazing offence that has wowed the league.

But, I can remember the 1984 Super Bowl with the 49ers and the Dolphins. Dan Marino was in his second year and was al world. He was breaking records left and right and the Dolphins were blowing people out of the water. Until the Super Bowl. The 49ers had their way with the "fish" that year.

As good as this year's Pats Offence is, the 1985 Bears Defense would have found a way to shut them down. I know that the Bears of 1985 lost to the Dolphins, but if those same Dolphins had made it to the Super Bowl that year (and trust me as a Bears fan I wanted to see them again... it was time for payback) the Bears would have made the adjustments needed to shut down that squad.

Now having said that, the reason the Bears had so much trouble with the ‘85 Dolphins that Monday night was Marino's super quick release.

Brady is very good (perhaps he will one day be considered the best ever) he has never been as fast to get rid of the ball as Marino was in 85. Brady makes his bones with excellent pass protection from his line. And I have no problem saying that the line and linebackers of the 1985 Chicago Bears (Hampton, Perry, McMichael, Dent, Marshall, Wilson and Singletary) would have gotten to Brady. The question is who would win if they both played their best games. In the 85 Bears best games they would crush the quarterback until he was too hurt or to afraid to be effective. Winner 1985 Bears 35-21.

Unless it's 1985 and you're in Miami with an undefeated team playing against Dan Marino and the "Marks Brothers."

The Patriots, at their best, would kill the Bears. As much as I like that Bears team, this Pats squad would spread them out and go 4 or 5 wide the entire game. That would preclude Buddy Ryan from running the 46 defense. The pass rush would be solid, but not like what Tony Eason was exposed to. The '85 Bears offense was not much more than one dimensional. McMahon was mediocre and the Pats would've keyed on Walter. At their best, the Bears might score 21 on offense using play action and Walter popping a couple of big runs. Then again - who knows.

I think the Bears would've generated an effective pass rush to pressure and frustrate Brady, and quite possibly knock him out of the game.

Bears 27 Pats 20
